RIGA TO HOST WORLD RX DOUBLEHEADER EVENT

The provisional 2022 FIA World Rallycross Championship calendar has been unveiled following today’s FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) meeting, highlighted by the return of some classic tracks alongside existing fan favourites for first season of World RX’s electric era – including Ferratum World RX of Rīga, doubleheader event in Latvia’s capital city Rīga.

The 2022 World RX season – the first in the championship’s exciting new electric era – is planned to incorporate 10 rounds across seven events, each in a different country. The action will get underway at iconic Swedish circuit Höljes over the course of the legendary “Magic Weekend” in early July.

The event will offer fans attending trackside and watching at home a privileged first glimpse of the thrilling cars that will do battle for World Championship glory in 2022 – each of them underpinned by Kreisel Electric’s cutting-edge RX1e powertrain – in their eye-catching colour schemes.

Germany’s famous Nürburgring – scene of the thrilling 2021 title showdown – will then play host to World RX at the end of July, before Hell in Norway marks a welcome return in mid-August for a full house of flat-out, dual-surface entertainment at the Lånkebanen track.

A trio of action-packed double-headers follow, starting at Rīga’s historic Biķernieki trase in Latvia with Ferratum World RX of Rīga scheduled for 3-4 September – the event makes a calendar move, and is now hosted two weeks earlier than its previous mid-September slot.

And a full weekend it promises to be Rīga with FIA RX2e Championship contenders in equal machinery joining the action in their electric race cars. Even more, FIA European Rallycross Championship’s flagship category RX1 is set to join the stage as well for a very warm welcome of “internal combustion engine”-run cars roaring again.

The event in Latvia’s capital city is followed by Portugal’s scenic Montalegre circuit a fortnight later and legendary Belgian venue Spa-Francorchamps in early October.

The campaign will conclude at an as-yet undisclosed venue.
